தை முதல் நாளே தமிழருக்கு புத்தாண்டு.

தை பிறந்தால் வழி பிறக்கும் என்று கூறும் முதுமொழியே தமிழினத்தின் புத்தாண்டு என்பது தைப் பிறப்போடு தொடங்குவது என்பதற்குச் சான்றாகும்.எனவே தை (சுறவம்) முதல் நாளே தமிழருக்கு புத்தாண்டு என்பதை அனைவருக்கும் புத்தாண்டு வாழ்த்துக் கூறி நிலைநாட்டுவோம்.

Tamil New Year and Thai pongal is celebrated on January 14-15th every year. The month of Thai (January) is the harvest season in the Thamil homeland spanning from Thamil Nadu to Thamil Eelam. Pongal refers to rice cooked in milk and sweetened with brown sugar (chakkarai, from which the English word jaggery is derived). On a full scale it is a three-day festival of nature-worship. It includes feeding the birds that are part of the beauty of nature, and offering thanks to the cattle, Mattu Pongal, which gives milk and plough the fields. Jallikkattu is a peaceful sport involving bulls celebrated by young men as a part of 3-day Thai Pongal. Interestingly in Japan too, the harvesting day is celebrated on January 15 of every year and is called "Kosho Katsu".
